Okay, I made a right mess of my last pre-season prediction post.
I was of the opinion that Klopp would no longer field two separate teams for 45 minutes each and instead opt to play a team that contains many first 11 players for a longer period.
That wasn't to be the case.
So, I'm putting my neck on the line here and saying that Klopp will actually field a team for a longer period of time against Sporting.
We're only a few weeks away from the start of the new Premier League season so players need time to find fitness and form relationships on the pitch again.
It's somewhat annoying that both the Africa Cup of Nations and Copa America tournaments have taken place during the off-season this year. Liverpool players certainly could have done with an extended break after winning the Champions League.
Instead, we are yet to see Alisson, Firmino, Salah, or Mane return to full team training. The latter is actually set to return after Liverpool face off against Manchester City in the Community Shield.
This, of course, paves the way for players like Brewster and Origi to put their stamp on the season early on. They are likely to feature in the initial Premier League games, even if not for the full 90 minutes. I have to say that I have been impressed by Brewster so far but there are a few players who I believe will need to be moved on.
Kent, for example, just doesn't seem to have what it takes to play at this level. Wilson is someone I've wanted to do well but I do question whether we'd be better served selling him while his stock his high after an impressive loan season. I just don't see where he fits in within this squad as he's going to be battling for a place with the likes of Shaqiri, Oxlade-Chamberlain, and even Keita.
Results don't matter in pre-season, obviously, but I would like to see Liverpool win against Sporting if only for the fact that kickoff doesn't start until 1am and I don't fancy being tired in work for a loss.
I am also hoping that Sporting don't resort to trying to kick lumps out of us like Sevilla did, either. We'll soon find out.
