For us to grow sincerely in the spirit we have to first identify with Jesus through his spirit: which means taking the mind of Christ. Apostle Paul puts it this way:
“An unspiritual person is one who does not accept anything of the spirit of God… A spiritual man on the other hand is able to judge the value of everything and his own value is not judged by other men. As scriptures says: who can know the mind of the lord, so who can teach him? But we are those who have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2; 14-16).
The spirit gives us the mind of Christ. It’s only through having this mind of Christ in all our works and actions that we will be able to imitate and follow him faithfully. In the part of the mystery that Paul describes, extending to all ages is that we bring Jesus incarnation to our own culture and time by having the attitude of Christ, as he tells Christian.
“in your minds, you must be the same o Christ Jesus, his state was divine, but He did not cling to His equality with God, but emptied himself to assume the condition of slaves, and become as men are; and being as all men are, He was humbler yet, even to accepting death, death on the cross. (Philippians 2;5-7).

The spirit achieves this emulation of Christ in our hearts in many ways; first, he draws our attention to Christ. With an adequate disposition in our minds, the spirit makes the image of Christ come alive in us and for us. And he leads his guidance to the natural process of empathy. Here, empathy means entering into another person’s thoughts and feelings. Under the direction of the holy spirit, our attention will be fixed to Jesus so that,
“we will not lose sight of Jesus, who leads us in our faith and brings it to perfection.(Hebrews 12:2).”

Talking on the need to identify with Christ in our hearts, Bonheoffer wrote
“Who is pure in heart? Only those who have surrendered their heart to Jesus that he alone may remain in them; only those whose hearts are undefiled by their own evil and their own virtue as well.
Its my prayer friends, that we let Jesus remain in us. God bless you
