This is the gift of acquiring, teaching, and applying the faith to help others who sincerely seek to understand God's ways. It is a special gift of the Holy Spirit, which helps Christians recognize the goodness and the greatness of God and to appreciate his kindness to us. The gift of knowledge includes an understanding of nature, a perception of the turn of events and the thoughts of man. It also includes having good understanding regarding the Word of God, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Praying for a deeper understanding of the Ways of God, the book of Wisdom writes:

“We are indeed in his hand, we ourselves, and our words with all understanding and technical knowledge too. It was he who gave me true knowledge of all that is, who taught me the structure of the world and the properties of the elements" (Wisdom 7:16-17).

Through the gift of knowledge, Jesus was able to perceive the turn of events. He told the people of the town that rejected him:

“Alas for you Chorazin! Alas for you Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. And still, I tell you it will not go hard on judgment day with Tyre and Sidon as with you" (Mt 11:21-22).

Also, Jesus had perfect knowledge of the word of God, and an of each society he ministered to, including their laws and political system. In his preaching Jesus used this wealth of knowledge; no wonder people marveled at the gracious words he spoke.

Jesus, as the result of the gift of knowledge in him, was able to know the thoughts of men, and also the ability to discern the motive behind those thoughts. The Gospels note,

"He was well aware of what was in men’s heart"(Mt 12;25, Mk 2:8).

Christians should always seek this gift in order to help them know of the Kingdom of God. This gift can be acquired through reading the Word of God, attending Bible Study, listening to the Word of God being explained by teachers and pastors of the Church; and an adequate disposition to the word of God. This is important because one of the sins against faith is, largely a Christian's refusal to get acquainted with the Word of God.
