Don't want to play devil's advocate here, but friends can also act like some of your family members... They can also betray and deceive us, with the difference that we can "ditch them", and family will stay family... On the other side, I suppose those bad seeds of the family are usually marginalized, or simply ignored... At least, that's how I deal with it... Family members who don't appreciate others are those that I don't keep in contact with at all... Yes, we tend to give "more chances" to the family than others, but why would we spend our time on those who don't deserve it?

As you said, we have good friends who are by our side, and we should be by their side, too!
