"A beggar" • a preparatory study for an oil paingting • “行乞的人”• 為油畫所做的小稿

▲This is a study of a begging man, in preparation for an original oil painting of mine.

I spent around an hour on it and decided to stop without finishing it, not only because it's just a study, which won't be on the final canvas, but also because in art, it's easier to go for details, than to keep it vivid (That's one of the reasons that some unfinished art works, e.g Schubert's Symphony No.8, are extraordinarily touching).

This quick painting has already got everything I would like to "say", so I think I can take it as a piece of complete work.

▲“行乞的人”是為一幅原創油畫所做的丙烯小稿。

畫了大約一小時，決定打住。倒不是因為這只是幅小稿，反正最終的油畫還要另外畫過，而是因為在藝術中，精雕細刻容易，生動鮮活卻難（這也是不少未完成的藝術品，比如舒伯特的第八交響曲，格外動人的原因之一）。

這幅“速寫”般的小畫，已經表達了所有想“說”的了，想來它可作為一件完整的作品。
