Largely disarmed to be more specific. I know there are Australian gun owners like @galenkp but from what he has described: There is a huge burden placed on legal gun owners, guns are not legally allowed for self defense at all unless you're police/government, and simple things like modern semi-automatic rifles are not allowed to be owned. The Australian government treats its citizens like children. Some states go even further, like Victoria allowing police to arbitrarily cancel firearms permits and demand immediate forfeiture. Judicial oversight or any sort of check on that power is not mentioned whatsoever. That's tyrannical, not to mention all of the other tyrannical measures Victoria has taken recently, which I don't believe is merely coincidental to the changed legal status of firearms in the state and country.
