Hi Everyone,
I have been running the social media channels for a bar in Central London for about a year now, and this is what I learned.
The bar is called Piano Smithfield and is located near Barbican Station in Central London. I have spent way too much time there, but if you want to come for a visit it is a great place to hang out.
There is a Cocktail menu that is decently priced, and live music. Depending on who is playing you can request pretty much any mainstream song out there.
It is a small place, about 16 Tables. At the moment there are less seats available, due to social distancing.
Taking over their social media channels was pretty easy, since I am quite active on social media myself. I basically was just thinking, how would I represent myself if I was a bar-owner.
One thing I had to get used to was to take Pictures all the time of everything. I normally don't take that many pictures, actually being on Steemit has really changed that as now I take pictures all the time, But when I started I had to make a conscientious effort to take pictures of drinks, the venue, the piano, birthday party signs.....
During the lockdown the bar was closed and has just re-opened today, so I spent a whole year posting pictures as throwbacks, and even if you think you have a lot, that is difficult!
Taking pictures of cocktails in a badly lit environment is quite challenging. You really have to focus on the color of the drink and somehow manage to get the exposure right. When you have a green drink with red walls and dimmed lights on it that can easily start to look brown.
Another important thing is if you have a big booking, or a party, or anything out of the norm, you have to make a BIG BIG deal out of it. The Idea is to get more people wanna celebrate special occasions there, and most people don't think about it until they see it happen.
Another little tip is to suck up to the Pianists, so they send you their rota and plenty of pictures. You can never rely on the promoters. ..... If the promoter creates ugly flyers himself and sends them to you to post you will have to post them and that will ruin your feed, so try to stay ahead of the game!!!
All in all I think running social media for someone else is a really good experience, as it helps you to rationalise, also for your own channels. You start seeing it as a job and just do it. I know some people don't use their Instagram for work and just use it to post things from their lives, but if you are self employed, or a small business, having a good online presence can really help you out.
I hope you enjoy this article, let me know if you want me to post some cocktail recipes to copy.
