Interesting topic on my Linkedin account popped up this morning with the idea that maybe job interviews should be made redundant.
Well my response was "how ridiculous?".
Last time I checked, time cost money in the work environment so why would I risk giving a job to someone purely based on on a pile of paperwork when I risk hiring a person with a pile of paperwork that cannot focus under pressure, think on their feet and make good quick decisions and apply the most basic of common sense in what may end up being a street smart decision?
I appreciate education and would never insinuate it to be little value, but will never choose purely based on it.
What if you need the candidate to fill a post urgently and they cannot, now you will still be at a retarded pace as this person still needs to be trained. Nice for them and you if you have the time, but no good if you don't and even more time wasted if they fold and you have to start the headhunting all over again.
Just stick to what works, round and polish it to work better and better, but if it ain't broken, don't fix it.
Be objective and open minded. Consider the person's effort spent on education, but don't push aside the person with the needed characteristics, self taught skills and natural abilities to perform the task.
