I've been spending some time in memory.
Being a great lover of music I sync a lot of memories to music I was introduced to during different times f my life. I remember one of the worst times of my life being the loss of my father who was also my friend (in a balanced way as he was always my father first and foremost), my mentor and my provider. He did all those things in great balance and was very good at it. He was not a promoter of modern music and and enjoyed his classics and opera so we were never really subjected to any of the newer stuff as he thought the modern approach to music to be unintelligent and monotonous.
The kind of thing that made my father happy
This is my favorite rendition of the latter piece
I guess that many apples do fall close to the tree as I have maintained a love for the classics and opera, but as I grew and had to grow up fast at age 12, very quickly discovered more of what the music world offered and remember my eldest cousin on my mothers side's husband being a young policeman at the time introducing me to INXS and Cutting Crew
These are still favorites of mine. I quickly started looking for music of my own taste as there was so much out there I had never heard. I soon found Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Fleetwood Mac, The Police, Mike & the Mechanics, Eurythmics, Roxy Music, Icehouse, Midnight Oil, John Farnham, ACDC and many others.
Dad wouldn't have listened to any of these I think, but I had to now shape my own tastes and I'm sure he would have respected and guided me if he was alive. I formed new friendships which introduced me to new sounds such as Texas, Roxette and Simple Minds which I still listen to today with great memories of a girl with very long brown hair and a geeky brother that was super clever with electronics and built his own electric guitars, but I never paid him much attention on account of his sisters influence over my emotional state.
There was a striking redhead not long after my sixteenth birthday that I met at the gym where I became very much hooked on weight training who enjoyed Motley Crew
and she was wild one, but I'll leave that there.
I got my first motorcycle that year and upgraded to something much bigger soon enough and got involved in a motorcycle club with guys of which two ended up in the army with me. Van Halen was introduced and White Snake
still a favorite as well, it just has what it takes.
I met my first wife which is a minister's daughter and at that time I just acquired a Stevie Nicks album called Rock a Little
You can Talk to Me was a song we listened to often and it still rings today as we are now better friends than we were back then.
That marriage sadly only lasted eleven months after a four and a half year relationship during which I had also gone to the army where I shared a great deal of music with brothers in arms like Brothers in Arms
Mark Knopfler still being one of my top favorite musicians today along with Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Lindsey Buckingham and guess who this is, Gordon Sumner.
How much sweeter can memories be than with the sound of a piece of art that made your hair stand up?
I thank God for all the great musicians out there that helped raise me.
