Looking at the monastery of Camaldoli, Arezzo, Italy, 06/08/2019
It was so pity that I didn't have time to stay here. When I made itineray for trip in Italy, the monastery of Camaldoli was one of the priority candidate that I wanted to visit and stay because it maintains the tradition of community of Benedictine monks over 1,000 years. And since the medicines made by the monks were commercialized and sold, I wanted to search for the trace of antique medicine. However, the guesthouse in the monastery had already been overbooked. I had to be satisfied with looking around only several hours available owing to the schedule of my friends who would take me to the monastery of La verna. Some day I'll come back and stay here to experience the community life of benedictine monks.
Camaldoli , founded a thousand years ago by San Romualdo , is a community of Benedictine monks . Its two houses, the Sacred Hermitage and the Monastery, immersed in the peace of the forest, represent two fundamental dimensions of the monastic experience, solitude and communion.
The Camaldolese monks profess the Rule of St. Benedict. Both at the Sacred Hermitage and at the Monastery, especially the contemplative life is expected. Every monk engaged in daily work and prayer opens his heart to listening attentively and attentively to the Word of God, support of faith, food of the soul, source of spiritual life. In the community of Camaldoli the monk can be called to carry out the only monastic vocation either in the Sacred Hermitage or in the Monastery. The Camaldolese hermitage is placed between the solitary way of life (in the cell) and that of common life (choral prayer and meals). The hermit remaining faithful to his brothers and under the yoke of obedience, in solitary quiet, strives to achieve purity of heart and intimate union with God. Currently the community of the Sacred Hermitage is made up of 9 monks.
It was hot day. The water from the spring created next to the statue of Saint Benedict at the entrance of the monastery was very sweet and cool. Below are the fast captures of monastery and pharmacy before departure to La verna. See you again Camaldoli!
