The Chinese character of 悟 which means enlightenment as spiritual achievement is composed of two letters combined with 忄(心), which means mind, and 吾, which means self. Therefore the character of two letters imply us that we should understand 'my mind'. What a coincidence it is! The Ancient Greek aphorism says "know thyself"
The meditation jargon of Sati, translated as Mindfulness or Awareness, has something in common with the Ancient Chinese to create the letter of 悟.

Plus! 念 is made of 今(present) and 心(mind), therefore it recommend to stay here and now as present mind. This mindset is directly link to the mindfulness/awareness.
None of what the Tathāgata calls ‘thoughts(mind)’ are actually thoughts(mind). Therefore they are called thoughts(mind). Why? Because the past thought(mind) is unobtainable, the present thought(mind) is unobtainable, and the future thought(mind)t is unobtainable. The Diamond Sutra
