Good day guys!! How have you been?? Well well well I think the wave is finally over.... The world cup. This year's mundial came with so many surprises and I'm sure even some teams that failed to qualify for the tournament won't be so concerned considering how things turned out. But why France?? Maybe it was their year, moreover loosing two finals(euro's and Wc) within a space of 2years would have been nothing short of a disaster lol.
Alright away from the world cup, Sunday came with some spice!! Yeah spice I said. It's been long I took some time off for myself and the sweetest part was that it came as a surprise!!!
Even while coming at a surprise, it also came it's concern. Yes I had to miss the WC finals, one I've been longing for!! So where could I trade such a historic event for?? Let's see.
National Museum, Oron was the first stop
Well oron is a riverine settlement in the southern part of Nigeria. A 45minutes drive from the capital Uyo. This museum was built in the 90's and was part of the slave trade routes in the region. It's just situated behind the oron river.
It's managed by the government although currently it lost it's taste for tourists but as a first timer here, I was still woawed by the view, especially the river side.

A stroll around the area wasn't too convincing except the views . We met one of the locals and he tried explaining the reasons for that. Most of it was that they were too busy trying to cope with daily needs so instead of beautifying the place, they were more focused on money making activities.... Fishing.

Unlike the oron river, ibaka port was more adventurous and fun, 20minutes drive from oron. A lot of activities are going on here, transportation, fishing, market etc. I got in contact with people from Ghana and Cameroun coming to do business in the location.
Lovely people, very hardworking and hospitable
We got to learn that the port opens as early as 5:30am. Many activities goes on here, from transporting people to nearby countries to fishing. People from guinea, Ghana, cameroun, Ivory Coast etc come here to do business and just like the bus terminal, the flags you see there indicates where the boats are coming from. I was forced to ask a local where they do get fuel for the boats and a boy pointed me to the pump station In the middle of the sea.... wonderful!!

Well just like any or let me say most ports it's always dirty at the bank. Waste from water bodies to human waste(s) etc all settle at the bank and the animals aren't left out too, you can see the pig having the fun of his life lol.
It started like an imagination then one of us popped the question but at first we didn't buy the idea cos just like they say... "water is only sweet when it's in a cup". But sometimes to have fun you take risks and that's how we were in one of the boats cruising around.

They say you take risks to have fun(some), we went a step further with no safety vests lol. Everything happened so fast and we remembered we weren't on vests just when we were in the middle of the sea. We were given a tour around, we reached the nearby village and also the pump station. Entering a boat for a second time after a long while was another experience. With a mad driver who sure knew how to torment us with speeds which left us at times wailing for help hahaha.
Catfish my love
Well another great part of traveling is getting to eat the locals' delicacies. Catfish soup was the menu for the day the locals call it "efere ndek inagha". This is one soup I've always enjoyed eating right from time but today it came with a different sauce. Church was fasting and so you could imagine this was God's doing.... a table prepared before me lol.
if you love fish, you will love this soup... Yummy!

Tick tick tick, our fun was gradually coming to an end, the sumptuous food and lovely view with the amazing people we came in contact made us wanna stay longer but hey we all have our businesses so we have to head home. Oh I forgot!! Here was actually for one, but a typical blogger creates fun outta everything right??
So that was how our Sunday went. Mission accomplished and fun gotten too. Not too many Sundays like this are likely coming for now but once I get the chance, maybe you too will get to see a different side of the world around here... If you weren't seeing already??
