Speaking in tongues is a gift of the holy spirit to the followers of Jesus Christ. On the Pentecost day the disciples of Jesus Christ was seen speaking different languages of different tribes and people was able to hear the message of God. The Bible teaches that spiritual gifts are given to build up the church and glorify God, not to draw attention to oneself.

The bible let us to know that love is the greatest commandments and is much more important in our life than speaking in tongues. When speaking in tongues is practiced in public worship, it should be done in an orderly manner and, when possible, interpreted so that others may be encouraged and instructed. The purpose of every spiritual gift is to strengthen believers and honor God.

"Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good." 1 Corinthians 12:7
