Amazing Splinterlands Brawl #160 - TIPS & TRICKS - by @pero82
Hello everyone! Pozdrav svima!
I'm almost a week late with this post, I was super busy at work so I ended up writing this post over span of 4-5 days, but bare with me, it will be worth it, trust me. 😉
Today I'm going to share with you result and battles from the last week's Brawl of our Tier 4 clan Peakmonsters Pirates, where we placed in 4th place, and I managed to achieve my very first brawl clean sweep (I managed to win in every single match - no losses and no draws).
Funniest thing about it was that the brawl was happening over the weekend and I had my son's birthday party and didn't manage to put my battles in till 1 hour before brawl ended. I guess I perform best under pressure. 😝
Our clan had 95 wins and 55 losses which resulted in 294 points. Even though this was much higher point count then last brawl it wasn't enough for more then 4th place overall.
For this result the guild has won spoils of 117 Crowns and each fully participating member was awarded 5,571 Merits and 141.227 staked SPS. A bit less crowns and merits then the last time, but 20 more SPS - I'll take it. 😍
Brawl SPS pool for this month is 2,330,164 SPS and it will decrease by 1% after 14/07/2023 to 2,306,862 SPS, as we are currently in 8th distribution month. We can see in the image below how much SPS is distributed per brawl cycle in each Tier.
Total amount of Staked SPS Rewards that has been earned in all Brawls thus far is 10,951,631 SPS.
We started with SPS rewards 8 months ago with 2,500,000 SPS in the pool, which decreased by 1% each month and will continue to do so for 65 months. What will happen after that, no one knows (ok, probably someone knows).
This brawl I played in Frey 6 which is limited to Gold level cards with all cards available to play (Wild format). I played the Brawl of my career, winning in every single battle, ending up with a score of 7 wins and 0 losses - awesome result considering I was racing the clock.
This placed me in the 2th position among my clanmates, with one more clean sweep by my guildmate Lics01. The rest of the guild also performed amazingly.
My plan for this post is to go through my battles and try to explain my thought process of picking each team, what I got right or where I went wrong.
1️⃣ Battle 1 of 7 1️⃣
First battle had a high-mid mana pool (48 mana), Up To Eleven (everyone get Amplify ability), Rise of the Commons (only common and rare monsters can be used) and Little League (only summoners and monsters that cost 4 mana or less can be used) rulesets, with all splinters available except Dragon.
I played this battle against @bebeomega, one of the coolest guys in the game and one of the most interesting streamers on SplinterlandsTV.
We both chose Death splinter and Thaddius Brood summoner. The difference between our teams and what decided the outcome of the battle was that I used Riftwing who has Headwinds ability that reduced enemy ranged attack by 1, and he used Elven Mystic who has Silence ability that reduces magic attack by 1 which was redundant since his summoner already did that and none of my monsters had that much magic attack to be affected.
Another mistake on his side was using Twisted Jester because he has Snipe so he didn't attack my tank but my Riftwing.
Only thing I would change in my line-up would be the last position monster where Soul Strangler would be better fit since he has 4 ranged attack.

2️⃣ Battle 2 of 7 2️⃣
Second battle had mid mana pool (36 mana), Lost Magic (we cannot use magic monsters), Earthquake (non flying monsters receive 2 damage at end of each round) and Odd Ones Out (Only monsters with odd mana cost can be used) rulesets, with Water and Dragon splinters available.
I chose Water splinter and Kelya Frendul summoner to protect my team for one round with that extra armor. Lord Arianthus as a tank and Kulu Mastermind right behind him to give him the melee attack with Weapons Training. Behind them was Venari Marksrat so he could buff Kulu with Martyr if he dies, after him the amazing Noa the Just with Rust reducing opponent's Armor, making them more vulnerable to Earthquake damage. I put Pelacor Bandit in to have at least one flying unit and Disintegrator to reduce opponent's melee damage and protect the back.
My opponent had Lux Vega summoner, very powerful Neutral summoner that can be played with any splinter. He paired her with Water splinter, although he used only 1 Water monster. His mistake was that he didn't focus the fire of his monsters, he had one monster attacking my tank, one monster with Sneak and one with Opportunity. On top of that his Taunt monster didn't attack anyone. With damage spread out like that and the fact he had no flying monsters he had no chance.

3️⃣ Battle 3 of 7 3️⃣
Third battle had low mana pool (17 mana), Wands Out (only magic attack monsters available), Taking Sides (no neutral monsters) and Equal Opportunity (everyone have Opportunity ability) rulesets with Fire, Earth, Death and Dragon splinters available.
We both went with Death splinter and Thaddius Brood summoner, because Death has some awesome low mana monsters, and summoner choice was obvious because Thaddius reduces magic attack of the enemy.
I chose Ancient Lich for my tank because he has Void ability which reduced magic attack from enemy by 1, or blocks it all together if attack is equal to 1. Perfect choice since my summoner already reduces enemy magic attack. Other two monsters were here to deal additional damage, even though Ancient Lich could solo this battle.
My opponent had no chance because none of his monsters had enough magic attack to even damage my tank.

4️⃣ Battle 4 of 7 4️⃣
Fourth battle had mid mana pool (39 mana), Weak Magic (magic attack hit armor before health), Born Again (everyone have Rebirth ability) and Fire & Regret (everyone have Return Fire ability) rulesets with Earth, Death and Dragon splinters available.
I chose Earth splinter and Immortalis summoner (because Immortalis is the king, that's what @maxmaka taught me) mainly because of the Shatter ability he gives everyone, while Void and reduced enemy health is a nice bonus.
In tank position I put Mycelic Infantry because his Shield ability and nice defensive stats work amazingly with Void, Queen Mycelia for additional Armor, Sporcerer for Rust (decrease enemy armor so my attacks get through) and Silence (reduce enemy magic attack), Goblin Psychic for Tank Heal, Affliction and also Silence, and in the back two Sneak attack monsters.
My opponent went with Dragon and Death splinter with Delwyn Dragonscale summoner to increase his magic attack and two magic monsters with Blast, but my double Silence and Void totally neutralized them. His only hope was to have more Sneak monsters which he didn't have at all.

5️⃣ Battle 5 of 7 5️⃣
Fifth battle had a mid mana pool (37 mana), Heavy Hitters (all monsters have Knock Out ability), Are You not Entertained (one additional Gladius card can be used) and Little League (only summoners and monsters that cost 4 mana or less can be used) rulesets, with Fire, Water, Earth and Life splinters available.
I was having a dilemma whether to go for Water splinter with Kelya for that Armor and Speed, or Life with General Sloan so I take advantage of great ranged monsters that splinter has.
I chose General Sloan with excellent tank Xenith Monk (ha has Void and Heal) and paired him with Sunkai Harvester for his Reach ability. Time Mage is always great to have in the team for the Slow and Rust, Venari Crystalsmith for the Heal and Light Elemental for Headwinds to reduce opponents ranged if needed. Ajax Lightfoot is amazing for rare card because of his speed and, of course, Bloodlust. All my damage was focused on the first enemy monster, so he had no chance.
My opponent made a mistake by dividing his firepower to front and back, that way my tank survived much longer then his. And speed difference was also decisive factor as all of my monsters took a turn before any of his.

6️⃣ Battle 6 of 7 6️⃣
Sixth battle had high mana pool (59 mana), Lost Magic (no magic monsters available), Noxius Fumes (everyone start the battle with Poison) and Reverse Speed rulesets, with Water, Earth and Death splinters available.
I went with Earth splinter and Scarred Llama Mage summoner, amazing Untamed summoner (one of the "holy 3" with Yodin Zaku and Byzantine Kitty) who can turn around battles like this. Usually when facing Noxius Fumes or Earthquake Llama is an obvious choice together with a Heal monster like Kron, Pelacor Mercenary or Quora Towershead. The ruleset excluded Kron and Quora because they have magic damage, and Reverse Speed excluded Mercenary because he's too fast then. That's why I went with Cornealus because he has a big chunk of health so he can outlive anyone if needed.
That's exactly what happened, the battle lasted so long that Fatigue kicked in and my Cornealus outlived his Gelatinous Cube.

7️⃣ Battle 7 of 7 7️⃣
Battle seven had mid-high mana pool (43 mana), Up Close & Personal (only melee monsters can be used), Back to Basics (monsters lose all their abilities) and Tis But Scratches (everyone have Cripple ability) rulesets with Fire, Water, Life and Death splinters available.
This ruleset cried for Water splinter and Possibilus the Wise summoner, since we had no Earth splinter available, more precisely Mylor Crowling summoner who gives your team Thorns.
Possibilus has an amazing set of abilities he gives to the team, and it work so great in this ruleset. Additional health is always welcome, Reach allows my team to attack with two monsters at once, and if Trample triggers on kill we get and extra attack.
I loaded my team with strongest melee monsters that I could fit within the remaining mana and hoped it would be enough. Only thing I would change, and I think I did this by accident because I was being rushed by the timer running out, is that I would put the Cruel Sethropod in front of Deeplurker, so he could tank while Deeplurker does the damage while in second position.
My opponent had an interesting idea with Death splinter and Astral Entity summoner, because he reduced my armor by 2, added Dodge to all his monsters and it would Resurrect the monster on his team that died first. Only thing he did wrong is the positioning of his monsters.
I would put Ever-Hungry Skull in the first position so he gets resurrected with 10 armor again. This way his tank Nightmare got resurrected with 1 health and died immediately after.
Another thing I would change in his line-up is that I would put Drybone Raider at the end, so he uses his ranged attacks as long as possible.

And just like that I won every battle in this Brawl. I still can't believe it! I was in such a rush to turn my battles in, didn't have much time to study my opponents collection like I usually do, just checked their summoners, and in many battles I raced the ticking clock.
When I look back, all those battles look pretty straight forward, but trust me, they didn't look like that while I was assembling the teams.
My first ever clean sweep, and I managed to pull it off in a Tier 4 guild! Not bad result for a Modern player playing in Wild. 😎
Brawl rewards for this cycle were distributed as shown in the image below. Pretty decent rewards, as it would be expected for a Tier 4 Brawl.
By the time I finished with writing up this post, we already started a new Brawl, I hope I will do good as I did in this one.
Thank you all for reading this long post. I hope you enjoyed it. See you next time.
