Remember That Night?
On a cold night, when the bell tower chimed a dozen times, I
found you. Wandering the streets, lost in your thoughts. Lost to
the world too. You walked and you walked. Till the arches of
your feet could carry you no longer.
Years later, lying in my arms.. you told me at last. Told me the
tale of that night. Of the day when all seemed lost. Of the
evening when you felt incapable of being loved. The night when
nothing mattered to you, and all you wanted was to escape into
the arms of death.
And then I came, and you found a new sun. You wanted to see
rainbows again, to feel the cool breeze on your face. Everything
felt rosy, for you had forgotten how to be happy until you met
me. And you wanted to live again, cloak yourself with laughter
and joy. You told me you had cheated death.
And! said, "You wanted to walk into the embrace of death that
night. And you found me. You walked into my arms and felt the
sadness ebbing away from your heart. Do you see? You found
what you wanted to find."
And she smiled. "I knew, my love. I knew all along."
