This Thursday my record of the day in my #life follows the common format for me of making a brief indication of what happened and accompanying this with the comments of an ephemeris of #History that corresponds to the day. Regarding my life, well, there is not much to tell, I left home with my brother in the middle of the afternoon and we returned with food, the piped water was arriving until this morning, so reserve water can be loaded into the tank underground and we have to wait for it to last until the next time they send water, which is a bit irregular and one can never plan on what one does not know.

On the day the electricity failed a bit, but it came back fast enough for one to rejoice, after all, in my current #Venezuela, services failing is not uncommon, so when the failure is brief in its duration it is cause for joy. I was actually planning to buy vegetables and vegetables at a fair nearby, but there was a change of plans, we brought food home anyway, so I guess we will go tomorrow to see if the fair is still working and we can buy then.

It can be said that my day was calm and without major incidents, in general, it can be considered a very good and pleasant day, so, since there is not much more to tell about my affairs, let's move on to comment on one of the events of the year. day, in this case, of the different celebrations and commemorations that were on the calendar, it caught my attention that it is International Pencil Day.

A date to celebrate an invention that vindicates manual writing in our technical times, where I myself can assure that I write much more on a computer keyboard or on the cell phone screen than what I write by hand. In general, the activity of learning to write by hand is important in the early development of children, helps with the development of fine movement control, and has been studied to help with memory development as well. The use of the #pencil seems to take advantage of a certain form of 'muscle memory', which reinforces cognitive memory and improves people's ability to think and reason, in addition to practicing writing helps to organize ideas and forces to express ideas clearly.

Personally, I remembered that phrase of the young (17 years old) winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014, Malala Yousafzai from Pakistan, when she expressed in her speech before the UN General Assembly that: "A child, a teacher, a book and a pencil can change the world. Education is the only solution.” That girl had been shot in the head as punishment for her desire to study, her act of wielding a pencil and cultivating her mind and spirit was considered by factions of religious fanatics to be an offense to her god… I don't know what kind of god they worships those people, but I think it's the kind of deity I'd rather not exist in this world.

The symbolism of the #pen is quite rich, since it can be taken to the old phrase that 'the pen (to write) is stronger than the sword', since what the pen writes are ideas and ideas can manage to forge the future.

By the way, I am curious about the date, it happens that when reviewing the sources and the history of this contraption, I find that it is said to have been patented by Lothan Faber in 1864, that would tell us that we are on its 159th anniversary, but There are other sources that tell me that Faber's pencil patent, founder of the Faber-Castell company, is turning 165 years old. Anyway, I have doubts about the date, but that doesn't affect the fact that today is his day.

By the way, the invention of what could be called a pencil actually dates back to the 16th century, when a product was created in 1565 with graphite from Cumberland, England. With the passage of time, different gadgets were developed and the evolution of this writing instrument was not seen outside the influence of international events, for example, the conflicts in the 18th century between England and France, led the continental country to develop a pencil lead formula less dependent on graphite, which was a mineral for military use, for which a mixture of clay, graphite and charcoal was used, which, when baked and sandwiched with cedar wood, gave rise to Conté pencils and Hardtmuth, which are said to be far superior to what Faber's company was doing at the time.

Today, I can't remember the pencil without thinking of the eraser attached to the end, it's an addition that was created in 1858, when Hymen Lipman patented the first eraser attached to a pencil. Personally, I think it's a great idea, but I remember reading that some teachers and artists considered that this was an insult, since the user of the pencil had to be firm and determined, a line made should not be erased... I really don't like that idea, I am in favor of editing content and drafts, so the possibility of deleting and correcting is something that I greatly appreciate.

With all the time that has passed, the pencil also specialized and the different classifications of its core types arose, which I think I remember, was something started by Faber, which is not unusual considering their German roots and the cultural mark they have the germans try to standardize all things.

Anyway, I'm already making the story very long, I better say goodbye, wishing you that you are well and that we can read each other again another time.
