Greetings, everyone!
According to the contest question, this is very deep, and it makes people heighten their talents or abilities against the circumstances they find themselves in. After checking your immediate abilities, think of the environment. Will the environment be suitable or comfortable to give out what you have? Also, check the language of the people? Do they understand the English language?
I am going to use my present environment that I am in now to answer this question.
In Kaduna State, there is this area where I am residing, a government residential area where big men and big women are residing with beautiful storey buildings, all fenced around, but the official language spoken is English. But all of them understand Hausa, and some came from other States to start their lives.
When I rented an apartment there, the environment and the people were so strange to me. One day, I decided to take a walk around the streets and I realized that, they used the American countries' names to name the street, like, Ghana street, which is where I'm residing, Morocco street, Rwanda street, Arsenal street, Egypt Road, Libya street Gambia Avenue, and many more. Around the streets, beautiful schools that have nursery, primary, and secondary. I was wow. Since I don't have any other transferable skills, let me transfer my knowledge to the students, and this is what I can exchange for money.
However, as long as I keep growing, becoming conversant with the people and the environment, I will start becoming one of the functioning members of the strange land, adding value to the system and building structures that will last forever. By doing this, I will be completely whole in every aspect of the land, enjoying the fruit of the land and taking control because the earth is the lord's. We take possession and lay hold of it in-to-to.
In a strange land where you don't understand the language of the people, it will be difficult to sell your business. To gain access, you need to win their hearts with their native dialect to scale through. And if you really want to make it in a strange land, you need to learn their language; you might not be fluent in it. I could recall that when I came to North, one of the major challenges I had was the dialect. Boarding a tricycle was a big problem because I couldn't explain where I was going in Hausa. They Hausa speaking boys who were riding the tricycles. I almost got lost one day, because the guy didn't understand and I didn't know that he didn't understand English, if not for one of the passengers who helped me by explaining to him Hausa. It was hell and bloody. And at the same time, I was ashamed, making me feel like I didn't belong with the people.
By the way things were going, it was obvious that I was a stranger in the land. I had to buckle up to learn the Hausa language by force, which I am trying to do.
In all, offer your skills and abilities in a way that people will benefit from you, and you also gain from them. Language and environment are important to sell or display your potential.
