And let the peace of Christ be ruling in your hearts, as it was the purpose of God for you to be one body; and give praise to God at all times.
Colossians 3:15
Many people use their sense of peace as a sign to make sure that God's will is in their lives. But this may not be enough evidence to confirm that their decisions are in harmony with the Lord's plans.
Whose peace are they experiencing?
Colossians 3:15 tells us that :
This kind of peace comes from Christ, and it is the arbitrator who judges whether our decisions coincide with the will of God. The word peace means to be intertwined in harmony and unity. Thus, having God's peace on an issue means that our decision must be aligned with His will. The only way you can know this is to compare your thoughts and decisions with the Word.
Are you thinking the same as Him? Did you make your decision using biblical principles or your own human criteria?
One of the reasons we often make decisions without the guidance of the Bible is because we want a faster way to find an answer. The Lord does not pour his thoughts into our brain, He molds us little by little, day by day, as we read his Word and let his truths plunge into our mind.
Building continuously over time is the only way to internalize a foundation of God's truth. With His instructions as the basis of your life, you can make decisions knowing that you are following your will and living in unity with Him.
