On the last day of the year there is a swimming show in Přerov. This part of the New Year celebration has a long tradition - it was founded in 1971 by František Venclovský, the first Czech to complete the crossing of the English Channel. This is the fifty-second time the event has been held this year.
This year it was quite warm for the swimmers - air 10°C (50°F), water 6°C (43°F). It hasn't always been like this. There was often snow and sometimes even ice had to be cut through on the Bečva River. This year it was supposedly not too rough, the water was pleasantly warm :)
This year's event was attended by about thirty hardy people.
