I really can't explain it, or why it is, but I am just so incredibly attracted to upcycling. There is something so joyful about taking an object that has a ton of potential (whether it’s high-quality pearls or just an old, totally out-of-fashion necklace) and turning it into something else that actually has potential to sell. I don't know why, but it just gives me so much pure joy. So, I guess I will just start sharing my upcycles over here!
Turning an Early 2010s Piece Into Something That Will Actually Sell (hopefully)
I want to show you one of my latest projects. This necklace started out as a really long, kind of early 2000s style piece. I feel like I have now managed to turn it into something that people will actually want to wear today.
Right now, charms are so in fashion, and choker lengths are completely in fashion. Trends are showing us that jewelry can be complex and still be very fashionable: necklaces really do not need to be minimalistic right now.
Personally? I think I nailed it.
Of course, it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but I have taken something and just created absolutely something new that will maybe find a loving home. It has soul, and it has lots of potential to be someone's new favorite necklace.
On My Work Table (and Lessons Learned)
This is actually one of the first longer necklaces that I've turned into a choker length. I have a couple more sitting on my table right now in totally different styles, so there is more to come!
But yeah... I really need to remember to take better "before" photos. I didn't think about that at all when I started this one because I just got so excited to create. Lesson learned for next time!
