Hola a todos los que me leen en este blog. Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una experiencia que me marcó profundamente y que me hizo reflexionar sobre la importancia de cuidar el medio ambiente y de aprender de quienes lo hacen con pasión y dedicación. Se trata de mi visita a la finca la Excelencia, ubicada en el municipio Artemisa, al final de una hermosa calle llamada la calle de las palmas.

Hello everyone who reads me on this blog. Today I want to share with you an experience that deeply marked me and made me reflect on the importance of caring for the environment and learning from those who do it with passion and dedication. It’s about my visit to farm La Excelencia, located in the municipality of Artemisa, at the end of a beautiful street called Calle de las Palmas.

Como trabajador del CITMA, tuve la oportunidad de visitar esta finca con el objetivo de ver si cumplía los requisitos medioambientales para ser reconocida o premiada en el día mundial del medio ambiente. Lo que encontré allí superó todas mis expectativas y me dejó una profunda huella.

As a worker of CITMA, I had the opportunity to visit this farm with the objective of seeing if it met the environmental requirements to be recognized or awarded on World Environment Day. What I found there exceeded all my expectations and left a deep impression on me.

La finca La Excelencia es una finca pequeña pero llena de innovación, interés y creatividad. Es una finca escuela donde se brinda capacitación a otros agricultores de la zona sobre temas como el manejo sostenible del suelo, la producción orgánica, la diversificación de cultivos y la cría de animales. Allí pude ver cómo producen humus de lombriz, un abono natural que mejora la fertilidad del suelo y reduce el uso de químicos. También producen microorganismos eficientes, unos seres vivos que ayudan a descomponer la materia orgánica y a controlar las plagas y enfermedades. Además, crían tilapias rojas en estanques para la producción de carne, una especie que se adapta bien a las condiciones climáticas y que tiene un alto valor nutritivo.

The farm La Excelencia is a small farm but full of innovation, interest and creativity. It is a school farm where training is provided to other farmers in the area on topics such as sustainable soil management, organic production, crop diversification and animal breeding. There I could see how they produce worm humus, a natural fertilizer that improves soil fertility and reduces the use of chemicals. They also produce efficient microorganisms, living beings that help decompose organic matter and control pests and diseases. In addition, they raise red tilapia in ponds for meat production, a species that adapts well to climatic conditions and has high nutritional value.

Pero lo que más me impresionó fue la variedad de cultivos que tienen en la finca. Pude ver desde mangos hasta café, pasando por chile habanero, un picante muy apreciado en la cocina cubana. Todos estos productos son cultivados con técnicas ecológicas y respetuosas con el entorno. De hecho, la finca ha sido reconocida en múltiples ocasiones por sus productos, sobre todo los relacionados al manejo sostenible del suelo.

What impressed me the most was the variety of crops they have on the farm. I saw everything from mangoes to coffee, passing through habanero chili, a very appreciated spice in Cuban cuisine. All these products are grown with ecological and environmentally friendly techniques. In fact, the farm has been recognized on multiple occasions for its products, especially those related to sustainable soil management.

Lo más bonito de esta visita fue poder tener un contacto directo con la naturaleza, la flora, la fauna y los animales de la finca. Justo al lado de la finca hay un bosque donde pude ver un tocororo, el ave nacional de Cuba. Fue una sensación de paz y armonía que me llenó de alegría y emoción.

The most beautiful thing about this visit was being able to have direct contact with nature, flora, fauna and animals of the farm. Right next to the farm there is a forest where I was able to see a Tocororo, the national bird of Cuba. It was a feeling of peace and harmony that filled me with joy and emotion.

La finca La Excelencia es un ejemplo de cómo se puede producir alimentos sanos y de calidad sin dañar el medio ambiente ni los recursos naturales. Es una lección de sostenibilidad y de amor por la tierra que todos deberíamos aprender. Por eso, quiero agradecer a los dueños y trabajadores de la finca por su hospitalidad y por su labor tan noble y admirable. Espero volver pronto a este lugar tan especial y compartir más experiencias con ustedes en este blog. Hasta pronto.

The farm La Excelencia is an example of how healthy and quality food can be produced without harming the environment or natural resources. It is a lesson in sustainability and love for the land that we should all learn. That’s why I want to thank the owners and workers of the farm for their hospitality and for their noble and admirable work.
