Am still reflecting over the recent question for the week in ladies of hive and I shared something like these, giving my response to the week questions on what do you think is that thing every adult should know how to do.
Without hesitation, how to communicate was the first thing that crossed my mind.
Knowing how to communicate is a skill on its own that's the communication skill.
There, I wrote on how it is something every adult should know how to but here, I am taking about the problems that follows if it's ignored for some reason.
Now where should I even start from?
Should I start from the job seeker who humiliated and bad mouthed an individual on the road side for a mere mistake, just to arrive at his destination and find out that person was the one to interview him. Or the innocent woman that was arrested simple because her choice of words were inappropriate.
I could go on and on.
One sign of maturity is knowing how to communicate.
Being perfect
No one is that perfect, but the person who would relax and make no effort to improve his or her communication skill is likely the victim here.
The most fastest way to thrive in a new environment is to know how to interact interact with the residents.
Ignore this skill and you may find yourself
Creating problems where there was none.
Losing opportunities, friendships, jobs, or even the respect of people around you.
You may have good intentions but the wrong choice of words can make you look rude, disrespectful or arrogant. And once people have that impression of you, changing it may not be as easy as you think.
You could be trying to defend yourself and end up making the situation worse.
You could be angry and say something you cannot take back.
And the painful part is that you may not even realize what you did wrong. You will just notice that people have started avoiding you, or someone who used to respect you now sees you differently.
This is why ignoring the need to improve how you communicate can become a problem.
