Hello,

I was very surprised that Bartın Municipality, where I did my internship in high school years ago, has been transformed into the most popular museum of the city. The Municipality building, which had a historical structure at that time, is now used as the Bartın City Museum by making it more ostentatious and modern.

Located in the heart of Bartın city center, this museum has two floors. Entrance to the museum is paid, and they only charge a small amount of 5 TL per person. This place, which is known as the government street, constitutes an important heritage for the people of Bartın. This museum, where you can find all the details about the city of Bartın, has been carefully prepared and presented to the guests. At the entrance there is a board showing the layout of the museum. The first floor consists of a long corridor. While walking in the corridors, they showed the states that left their mark on Turkish history and the years of their establishment.

Along the corridor, they tried to introduce the city by showing the development level of Bartın province from past to present, its population, its districts and their affiliation with other communities. Under the walls, inside the glass showcase, there is also a place for ancient artifacts from that period of history.

In the museum, they tried to explain the past events of Bartın province by putting them in chronological order. Among these, pictures of information about transportation and natural disasters, who the tradesmen of Bartın are, shipbuilding and commercial life are decorated on the walls. In addition, they tried to show the important people who illuminate the Culture and History of Bartın with their pictures and résumés.

On the walls of the building, which is completely made of stone walls, they tried to show in detail what has happened between Bartın's past and its future, since culture, art and education. Every detail has been considered, from Bartın's old bridges, old houses, to the plant species grown in the region.

I can say that blacksmithing, which is generally seen as a father's profession, was one of the important tradesmen groups in Bartın. There are still people who continue this profession in the side streets. It's not just blacksmithing. Many tradesmen, including carpenters, tow trucks, blacksmiths and coppersmiths, continue their services. This situation is shown to be somewhat specific to the city of Bartın. We know that coppersmithing has developed a lot in Bartın. There are even sculptures and promotional sections related to coppersmithing and charm in the center of the city. There is a very nice section in the museum that is reserved as the Chamber of Tradesmen.

One of the most important features of Bartın is its houses. Greeks lived in this region for a long time. The wooden houses built by the Greeks continue to be used in the streets and villages of Bartın. These wooden houses, which are usually two floors, are very spacious inside and there are rooms reserved for guests on each floor. I remember, when I was little, when I was living in Bartın, there was a very large two-storey house in brown tones opposite our house, the roof of which was made up of red tiles. We used to come and go with each other because the host was our neighbor. I even remember the times when I was lost in the house with a smile.

Finally, I would like to tell you about the famous Women's Market in Bartın. They explained how the women's market was formed in the museum and that they called it Galla Pazarı in Bartın dialect, with pictures and writings. Galla Pazarı, which has been in existence for nearly 200 years and is called "Women's Bazaar" in the local dialect of Bartın, started when men left their homes for forestry activities due to unemployment in the Ottoman Period and women took over the field and garden works. In time, it was known as the Women's Market because it consisted of women who carried the products such as vegetables, fruits, eggs, butter, cheese and yoghurt produced in their villages and sold them in the market established in Bartın.

Merhabalar,
