This is my visit to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of La Plata.
La Plata is called the city of diagonals due to the layout of its streets and is the capital of the province of Buenos Aires. We got there by train, the trip from the city of Buenos Aires is one hour and 20 minutes. Then you have to walk a few more minutes until you reach Plaza Moreno and there in front of you is the cathedral. Its style is Neo-Gothic and it is immense.
My visit was during an afternoon last month. December is summer in the southern hemisphere, so the afternoon was quite hot. The day was sunny with some passing clouds, so that the blue sky contrasted with the ocher color of the cathedral. Its exterior is really very beautiful.
Esta es mi visita a la Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepción de La Plata.
La Plata, es llamada la ciudad de las diagonales por el trazado de sus calles y es la capital de la provincia de Buenos Aires. Llegamos hasta allí con el tren, el viaje desde la ciudad de Buenos Aires es de una hora y 20 minutos. Luego hay que caminar unos minutos mas hasta llegar a la plaza Moreno y allí enfrente se encuentra la catedral. Su estilo es Neogótico y es inmensa.
Mi visita fue durante una tarde del mes pasado. Diciembre es verano en el hemisferio sur, por eso la tarde estaba bastante calurosa. El día estaba soleado con algunas nubes pasajeras, de modo que el cielo celeste contrastaba con el color ocre de la catedral. Su exterior es realmente muy bello.
Its interior is a haven compared to the hustle and bustle of the city. The sunlight that filtered inside formed beautiful and very mysterious shadows. The temperature was very pleasant, the oppressive heat from outside was no longer felt.
Su interior es un remanso en comparación con el bullicio de la ciudad. La luz del sol que se filtraba en su interior formaba hermosas sombras y muy misteriosas. La temperatura era muy agradable, ya no se sentía el calor agobiante del exterior.
The main entrance was under restoration.
La entrada principal estaba en restauración.
From there you can see the square and on the other side of it the Palacio Municipal de la Plata building. The office of the mayor of La Plata is located there. Our surprise that day was to find so many people celebrating at the entrance. They were the students celebrating the end of their studies. La Plata is home to the University that bears its name, with several careers that can be studied: Architecture and Urban Planning, Social Sciences, Astronomical and Geophysical Sciences, Exact Sciences, Medical Sciences, Veterinary Sciences,
Computing. December is our end of the school year, therefore these students were celebrating obtaining their university degree.
Desde allí se aprecia la plaza y al otro lado de ella el edificio del Palacio Municipal de la Plata. En él se encuentra el despacho del intendente de La Plata. Nuestra sorpresa de ese día fue encontrarnos tanta gente festejando en la entrada. Eran los estudiantes que festejaban el final de sus estudios. La Plata es sede de la Universidad que lleva su nombre, con varias carreras que pueden estudiarse: Arquitectura y Urbanismo, Ciencias Sociales, Ciencias Astronómicas y Geofísicas, Ciencias Exactas, Ciencias Médicas, Ciencias Veterinarias,
Informática. Diciembre es nuestro fín del ciclo lectivo, por lo tanto estos estudiantes festejaban la obtención de su titulo universitario.
