Finally, vacations!
About time I had some time off: one full week of relaxation, reading, and doing absolutely nothing, while soaking sun at the beach.
This part of the country is known for its beaches, and it's the preferred summer destination for tourism... one of the reasons why I tend to stay away! July and August are complete chaos in most of Algarve, unless you enjoy crowds. But in June it's still pretty bearable, and there's no doubt on how beautiful this region is.
Weather is great now, sunny and almost 30°C, with warm nights. You can easily go for a night walk on t-shirt, short and flip flops, and still arrive sweating at home.
There are also a ton of hiking trails, connecting more secluded beaches and belvederes. But nowadays it's way to hot to do them, unless reaaaaally early in the day, since temperatures rise pretty quick as the sun appears.
Nope, way better to enjoy the beaches. And the awesome sea food! Grilled sardines, anyone? 😁
I usually aim for more active vacations, normally travelling out of the country. But sometimes body and mind crave for some rest, and that's exactly what I'll do. Besides, there are some cool caves nearby, and a lot of different beaches to explore, including some highly rated for their beauty; so I won't be shy of things to do.
I even have birdwatching opportunities! Apart from the yellow-legged seagulls that roam the beach, the rocky cliffs that surround most of the beaches are filled with small hawks and swifts: can you spot these two on top of the cliff?
A very nice week ahead, it seems. And a good chance to catch up on some reading I was planning to do. One of them was a gift, and hopefully one with some cool insights. I won't tag who offered it, but thanks again, mate! Really enjoying it! 😉
I'll post in more detail about some gems here but for now... time to hit the beach again!
