Hello, friends and nature lovers 🌿
I’m joining in on the fun that this wonderful community always offers through its monthly contests. This time, I’m submitting my entry for the My Hobby in Nature and I’d like to invite @lizandra,
@naath,
@ibarra95, and
@numa26 to join the activities organized by Amazing Nature (AN)—you’ll have fun and learn a lot about nature.
To participate in this contest, I went to a small nature park that’s relatively close to where I live. I set aside some special time to go for a walk with my youngest son—it’s perfect for getting some exercise and taking a close look at everything around us, and it’s also a great opportunity to photograph the natural surroundings. This park is located within the city limits, like a small nature reserve, and I think it’s fantastic that these little natural oases exist in a city as modern as Medellín.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a special fascination with nature; I really enjoy observing it and capturing it in photographs and drawings. Years have passed, and I continue to observe it whenever I get the chance. Undoubtedly, this has been influenced by the fact that I had the privilege of growing up surrounded by orange, plum, tangerine, and mango orchards—in fact, a wide variety of fruit trees. I also had a lot of contact with farm animals, and that’s why I love nature. I’ve also traveled, exploring deserts, snow, beaches, rivers, savannas, and mountains in my home country of Venezuela. All of this has shaped my fascination with nature; it’s a truly beautiful and healthy hobby to observe it, admire it, and capture it through drawings and photos, all while learning from it.
When I was a little girl, I used to climb a wall at my house and also a tree to look out at the plantations in the distance. When I climbed up to a high spot, I could see the mountains of Henry Pittier Park on the horizon. This was in my hometown, Maracay, Venezuela. I could sit in silence, just gazing at the mountains. I also remember with nostalgia how, sometimes, I would climb up with a sketchbook and a graphite pencil in my hands to capture that mountainous landscape, which I would draw meticulously. I would look and trace, carefully sketching what I saw with the respect that majestic landscape deserved as it lay before my eyes.
Today I still observe nature, but now I capture what I see in it through photography. Although drawing remains vital to me, when I was studying for my degree in social communication, I took photography courses for several semesters—and not just theory in a classroom; I also saw and learned in a darkroom how to develop film from manual cameras. It was the old school—even though digital cameras already existed—but at the university, the professors required professional, manual cameras.
The photography assignments they gave us were both journalistic and artistic. What happened next was that I fell in love with photography. So, I love taking photos more than you can imagine—especially of what I see in nature.
I think that's the best way to learn from it, because nature teaches us so much. It's not just beautiful—it also holds hidden wisdom. I see nature as a gift from God that brings joy to my eyes and my soul.
Nature gives me the opportunity to exercise, combating a sedentary lifestyle—which is essential for my health and that of my youngest son, who is my companion until the time comes for him to spread his wings as well. My son is cared for as a patient with a health condition.
For now, we keep each other company on short walks that we enjoy together; my son is drawn to the beauty and healthfulness of the natural world, which pleases me greatly.
Nature also gives me peace, and as I said before, I see nature as a gift from God that brings joy to my soul. For example, when I stand before a flower, a butterfly, a bird, or a leafy tree, I feel a special emotion and gratitude because they are the Creator’s perfect work.
Although there are many natural parks in this city, it’s best to be in a completely natural setting. In my case, since I like to take photos, it’s annoying to have to deal with utility poles and all the electrical wiring, buildings, rooftops, and any other urban elements that get in the way between the camera lens and what I want to photograph. Furthermore, cities have noise pollution and all the other types of pollution typical of urban areas. Of course, city dwellers adapt to them, but naturally, outside the city—in a purer environment—the experience is more positive in every way.
I feel the desire to create an exhibition through a website—a sort of gallery—to promote the need to protect nature. Several years ago, I created a fan page called Parauri & APA Photography where I posted my photographs; I should revive it and expand it to other social media platforms. That's it for now. I think it's possible, and it's another step forward, in addition to posting them on Hive, where I already do so.
Nature, in addition to inspiring tenderness and admiration in us and bringing us a sense of well-being, can also be fierce. And so, it commands our respect. Let’s pursue hobbies that are healthy for everyone—for nature and for ourselves. May our hobbies bring us joy, serve a positive purpose for our well-being, and help us share the majesty of nature with others.
A hug!

@naath,
@ibarra95 y
