PTSD yes the big scary acronym no one likes to admit they may have. We hear it all the time "I'm fine", when in reality we are so numb on the inside we continue to move forward in a robotic way. Little bit by little bit we find ourselves more and more removed from reality to the point we wouldn't even know help if it hit us straight in the face. We are strong we get through calls many couldn't even imagine. What the job throws at us shapes us in a way we can't fathom but* we can choose how we allow that change in ourselves to occur. Look out for your brothers and sisters in uniform, follow up after shitty calls. A simple phone call or wellness check can literally change someone's life. Do not ever be afraid to ask for help!! There are so many out there willing to guide you through the emotions and turmoil that some calls lead us down. There are many resources available for first responders within your organization and community, familiarize yourself with them and never be afraid to lend a hand or ask for help yourself! Together we can help hault the growing number of ptsd related suicide in first responders. Thank you for all you do, you truly are amazing people.
