There are about 5 nurseries and a few shopping centers in the area that sell plants here.
We have problems with ants invading our kitchen, and we had to find an organic spray to keep them away.
So, we had to go to a nursery to get the spray. This one is called Cape Garden nursery, and they have two branches in the area. I have shown you our visit to the first one in a previous post, and here is our short visit to the second one. We are also always on the lookout for some special aloes, or cactuses, as we have many of the local ones at home in our garden. Unfortunately, we didn't find any new ones during this visit, but I will show you some that grabbed our attention.
So come and have a look.
This is a huge Barrel Cactus (Echinocactus grusonii), it is 60CM wide and there are a few of them that are for sale here. At a stiff price of course, so we cannot get one, but it's a comfort to know that our little one at home will grow just as a big in a few years time. This particular barrel cactus is endemic to Mexico, and they can live to be over 100 years old. So, we will not see our one when it's in its prime.
Here is the top of one of the barrel cactii and maybe it is starting to form its flower.
At the safe source below, you can see much more about the lovely Cape Garden Nurseries.
Cape Garden, Joostenbergvlakte, was opened in 1996. It has evolved into the largest Garden Centre in the Western Cape. Our second branch outside Stellenbosch opened in September 2005, and our third branch in Somerset West in 2016. In 2020 we also launched one of the largest South African, Cape Town based online plant shops.
We are a family run business, dedicated to giving you the best quality and prices available.
By growing our own plants in Vredendal and producing our own pots and water features at our factories, we are able to pursue our passion for good value.
At the section where they keep the sprays and the fertilizers, there are many of the little garden ornaments on sale, and I decided to share some pictures of them.
Just look how cute the Meerkat mom and her baby smiled when I asked them to pose for a picture :))
And finally, the wife went to order us some coffee.
Always pleasant to visit a nursery, as it takes one's mind off the trouble that we all have to face in our lives. We had a meeting recently with two police officers that want Papillon's help at another school, and I will do a post of it one of these days. So, If I talk about troubles in one's life, then I can tell you that we have tons of trouble in our country. An abundance of gender based violence, 80 murders per day, and the highest unemployed count in the world. People are struggling to survive and it's a fertile field for criminal syndicates to plant their evil seeds into the minds of struggling souls. I don't even want to talk about all of the corruption that's going on, so yeah, we face a mountain of ills, and that's why I say that a place like a nursery provides us with mental relief.
Any case, I digress and at least now our ant problems will be over.
I hope you have enjoyed the story and the pictures.
