Last year the entire area, including the grass, was under water.
The first two photos will show the roots of a giant-sized tree that was uprooted by the floods last year.
A contractor was appointed earlier this year to do rehabilitation of the river that runs from the mountains to the sea. The plan was to remove all of the water restrictions in order to create a free flow for the water, and to minimize the possibility of flooding.
I have done a previous post about the rehab at the section of the river close to our house 6 days ago, and as the rains arrived, we decided to travel up to a bridge at the closest spot of the mountains to see if the same flooding had occurred again.
Like I said, the grass was under water and a strong wind uprooted the tree.
And on the same day in the current year, the storm rains arrived again.
This was the bridge that has the best place to determine if the contractor was successful in order to prevent the flooding.
Oh yes, my heart was glad to see that the river flow was restored, and there was no sign of flooding, even though it was a strong flow of water.

So, here's a short video at both sides of the river, to show you that the flooding problem was solved.
I bet that it costs a pretty penny to hire the big back acter machines and the big trucks that were loaded with all of the sand, stones, rocks and tree stumps. As one loaded truck departed another empty one pulled in to be filled, and they operated in tandem like this for about a week in our area of the river. I was told that all of the soil was dumped at one of the farms in the area, and I think that the farmer was happy to receive all of the arable soil. The contractor does the work in phases, and the first phase took place from a spot near the sea, up to a bridge close to us. I presume that the second phase will start at this bridge close to us and end at the bridge that I am showing in this post. Excellent work, and the contractor and the city are doing wonderful work here. I noticed the care of the public, as many were at the places with cameras to take photos.
We hope and pray that a lasting solution will also be found to alleviate the people's stresses that live in houses below the water line. Every year so many lose their houses and all of their belongings in the floods, and this cannot continue, so, some urgent plans have to be made to move the people onto land higher up that does not flood.
Such is life.
