This is called a halo around the sun!
Actually this is called a solar halo and scientists call it a 22-degree halo because of the radius.The clouds around the sun contain millions of tiny ice crystals and the halo's are caused by refraction (splitting of light) and reflection.

Here's the full halo taken from the drivers seat of our car, as we were on our way to a meeting!
Some rain will be around again soon, judging by the winds play with the clouds.
And they were going home!
Lately this amazing halo seems to be appearing more frequently and it must be due to the cold in the air as it is now winter here. The mornings are fresh and cool in the lee of the mountains and it's beanie and scarf time.
I have taken some practice shots today of the mountain tops from a high spot, as we might get some light snow soon and I want to take clear pictures of the snow covered peaks. Looking forward to the rest of our short winter season that ends in July.
