They might as well grow up with skills and understanding.
In raising children, I've found that early on, they want to help, be involved, be around you, and participate. Very early on, they mostly "get in the way" and "aren't really any help at all," which is why many parents do not let them be involved in certain tasks. Then, once they get old enough to really help, they've been discouraged enough times to not want to help anymore...
I'm not sure about you, but I've witnessed this in many families, and I'd rather not do it that way in our home. If a child has a willing heart by lacks skills, we encourage that willing heart until the skills develop. It may take more time at the moment to do a task with a tiny "helper" getting in the way, but it'll pay off as they grow. In these photos, our little "Buddy-Pepper" is enjoying showing off some canned carp with Mama-Pepper. Was he a lot of help? No. Was his heart willing? Yes. Did he have fun? Yes. Are these smiles priceless? Yes.
