REGISTER
Every field of human endeavor is associated with certain technical terms which may be unintelligible to the uninitiated and which may convey different meanings altogether when they appear in other contexts. Register is therefore,the range of vocabulary, grammar etc used by speakers in particular social circumstances or professional contexts.
It is a trite fact that passages are usually drawn from different fields or professions and this singular fact underscores the need for people to acquire an extensive vocabulary applicable to a wide variety of subjects. In this write up an attempt shall be made to give lucid explanation of the terms as used in areas like Law, Medicine, Commerce, Banking and Insurance, Engineering, Agriculture, Government/Politics, Computer, Religion, etc.

Damages - The compensation or reward (especially in monetary terms ) paid to a person who has suffered some damage.
Will - It is a document written by a person in anticipation of death,stating how his property will be shared after his demise.
Codicil - An amendment to a Will.
Demise - The legal term for death.
Die intestate - To die leaving no Will.
Plaintiff - The person maintaining an action against another in a court; the person suing;litigant.
Defendant - The person against whom an action is maintained; the person that is sued by the plaintiff; the accused person.
Client - One who seeks the services of a lawyer.
Appellant - One who appeals against a decision of a court.
Respondent - The person against whom the appeal is made.
Alibi - A plea made by an accused person that he wasn't at the scene of the commission of a crime and could therefore not have committed the crime.
Judgement - The final pronouncement or decision of a court on a matter before it.
Perjury - To tell lies on oath.
Patricide - The offence for killing one's father .
Matricide - The offence for killing one's mother.
Infanticide - The offence for killing an infant.
Parricide - The killing of one's father ,mother or close relations.
Murder - The intentional killing of another person.
Manslaughter - Unintentional killing of another person.
Situate - The legal term for location.
Holden - The legal term for holding.
Regicide - The offence for killing a Queen or a King.
Genocide - The deliberate killing of a nation or a race of people.
Accomplice - A person who aids or abets in the commission of a crime and who can be held guilty of the same offence.
Justice of the peace - A person who judges less serious cases ,a magistrate.
Jurisdiction - The limits (area) within which legal authority can be exercised;the power to make legal decisions and judgments about something.
To institute - To bring a legal suit against a person.
To Sit - To resume hearing of a case .
To Rise - To close hearing of a case of the day.
Judicial Officers - General name for Magistrate and Judges.
