Hola, querido hiver.

Hi, dear hiver.

Yesterday's family meal went well. The afternoon flew by and in my case that meant enjoyment. I had got ahead of myself in the morning with all the chores which gave me time to be relaxed and calm, as it was.

The only thing that stands out is that they have been overcharged and they can't pay it back because their gas supply would be cut off. Not to bother me, or because they wanted to sort it out themselves, they didn't ask for my help and wasted a lot more time and blood than necessary. It turns out that they have been pestering them with phone calls when they can go to an office in person without leaving their neighbourhood. They thought they had eliminated it, when in a few seconds we found on the internet that they had moved a few streets away. I was amused that they asked the Google Assistant on their mobile phone some stupid questions and didn't think to look to see if there were any offices left in the city.

On the downside, I couldn't connect to the live stream of HiveFest, so I'll have to watch it on tape when I have some time. And, honestly, I doubt I will because the beauty of this kind of events is to live them in the moment. Even if it's thousands of kilometres away, knowing that you can see what's happening at that very moment gives me beautiful emotions. This afternoon, if nothing comes up, I will be able to experience it.

Update: I've seen a couple of interventions, both interesting. It's nice to share those moments in the chat, plus they help me to find out a bit more about what's being talked about.

Stoic quote of the day

Unexpected reverses are more serious; novelty increases the weight of calamity, and there is no mortal who is not more pained by the misfortune that has surprised him. Therefore, there is nothing that should not be foreseen; our spirit must anticipate every event and think not of everything that usually happens, but of everything that may happen.

Seneca.

My reflection

Today I identify perfectly with Seneca's quote. I can even say that sometimes I over-anticipate events, which has led me to anxiety on more than a few occasions. That is why, although I see myself reflected in what he advises us because it comes out of instinct, I feel obliged to warn that in my particular case, at least, it has not always been advisable.

As I have already mentioned so many times that I feel like a broken record, the question is to find the right balance. We have to be cautious and prepare for bad times, because history is cyclical and our life, though short, gives us the opportunity to experience highs and lows. We do not need to get used to the good things, as we find them pleasant from beginning to end. But in the bad times we show how we really are, and the reality is that we tend to chicken out due to lack of preparation, not real worth.

In the end, today's reflection is about fear. Not to fear anything that may come our way. To face each event by giving ourselves to it with our best version and serenity. Far from hiding or losing our heads, it is in times of great misfortune that philosophy helps us to demonstrate with deeds what before were only words. It is the facts that count.
