My Name is Rakeysh Chavan & Woomee India is my Social Entrepreneurship Project based in District Sindhudurg of Maharashtra, India. Periods are still Taboo in rural India & not a topic you can discuss publicly. There are so many restrictions on women during their period time & considered unholy thus untouchable. Most of the women are forced to sleep separately, not allowed to enter into the kitchen & temples.

In addition to that Sanitary Pads usage in rural India is very low & not much has been done regarding this issue till today. The government launched so many schemes & yet failed to eradicate this mental block from society. So I decided to do a survey & the results were horrible. Few factors to mention why sanitary napkin usage record low in India is lack of awareness, religious belief, & most key factor being financially weak. After giving a lot of thought, I started my initiative - Woomee Sanitary Pads Model.

This startup is founded to achieve the following goals.
Increase Sanitary pads usage from 35% to 70% by August 2019 in Sindhudurg
Spread Menstrual Hygiene Awareness among rural area women by carrying out awareness session at Village level
Create Employment Opportunities in Rural area
Provide Sanitary Pads to rural area women at a very affordable rate.
To do so firstly I have established a manufacturing unit of Sanitary Pads in Sindhudurg. So far 12 Employment opportunities have been created in mfg unit. 50+ Sales opportunities will be created in an upcoming month. This will support financially weak women to fulfill their monthly Sanitary needs.
Secondly, awareness sessions will be conducted at a village level. So far in one month Woomee has conducted 10 awareness sessions in Sindhudurg & created awareness among 800+ plus school girls & women.
Woomee India's goal is to make one Model village where every woman uses Sanitary pads from where other villages in Sindhudurg will draw inspiration. This drive for increasing sanitary napkin usage will turn into the wave of movement not only in Sindhudurg but in India also.
Tendoli is the village chosen as the model village where approximately 1800 women reside including 250 adolescent girls. To bring them under this movement we need to provide at least 70% of them free sanitary pads as they can not financially afford it.

Funds received through this campaign will be used towards conducting 25 awareness session in every sub-areas of the village & providing 2 packets to every woman every month for one quarter.
