The Erasmus Bridge is the icon of Rotterdam and a meeting place for photographers. It was designed by Ben van Berkel and opened by Queen Beatrix back in 1996. One of the most beautiful bridges in the Netherlands earned its nickname "The Swan", due to the shape of the 139m high pylon. The bridge 800 meters long, spans the Maas River and links the northern and southern parts of Rotterdam.
The southern part of the bridge can be raised to allow safe passage for ships too large to pass under it.
