Mountain Rtanj is located in the eastern part of Serbia, in the Zaječar district, between Boljevac in the north and Soko Banja in the south.
The highest peak is called Šiljak (the spike), at a height of 1565m.
Due to the relatively regular shape of the highest peak of Mount Rtanj, a legend was created that it was a former pyramid that radiates strange energy which can heal and protect people in its surroundings. There are stories about the alien visits and the famous fireballs in the sky above Šiljak peak. There is a story about 2012 and the people from abroad, who came here to find salvation from the announced end of the world.
Be that as it may, such stories and the commercialization of Rtanj, today attract and gathers various profiles of people. From adventurers, sportsmen and naturalists, to spiritualists, believers and other enthusiasts.
It was discovered that there are huge rooms inside the Rtanj mountain, and speleologists discovered a large number of caves. Also, near the top of Šiljak, at a distance of about 30 meters, there is a "Pit on Šiljak". The pit is 7 kilometers long and 9 meters deep.
The flora consists of forests of mountain beech, oak and spruce. The mountain is also rich in relic plants, such as: Ramonda Serbica, lilac, walnut, white silver linden, black ash, the smoketree and so on. The main ingredient of the famous "Rtanj tea" is heather or mountain mint (Satureja montana). This tea is mostly used for medicinal purposes.
The history of Mount Rtanj is closely related to the story of the Minh family.
