I had no choice but to stop paying the mortgage, and expected to be forced from my home shortly. but that was the year Obama Rat Fink touted mortgage modifications, which turned out to be just another mind fuck to entice people to default on their mortgages - almost no one got modifications.
I became disgusted with my situation when I realized it was not of my own making. I had been a model American citizen until the recession hit, always filing and paying my taxes on time, stellar credit rating, owed nearly 1 million to this bank and that.
Severe medical problems (not me, my hubby and kids) exposed the fallacies of the western medical model.
I could see we were fucked all around. So I got mad, hired a lawyer, stopped caring about my credit rating, and took control of my money myself. I didn't have much left when this all started, but over those twelve years of not paying a mortgage, homeowner's insurance, or RETaxes, I saved up a lot, all in cash equivalencies, nothing invested.
so yes, intuition was my guide. It will be my guide from now on. We are all a lot more informed than we have been led to believe.
