When I first read the prompt, I remembered interfacing from back in the day when I made a lot of my own clothes. I made jackets, slacks, button down shirts, all sorts of things that required interfacing. But I wasn't 100% certain interfacing was the right word for the stuff I used to stiffen parts of clothing. I had to look it up. My having to look it up, and finding that primary definitions of interface were technology related, gave me the idea for the story, which then wrote itself.
