If writing about another step toward my long-awaited #travelgoal is exciting, I couldn’t quite describe what I was feeling while actually making it happen. The trip I had planned to finish exploring Argentina’s provinces was going perfectly, and I was already close to reaching the halfway point of my itinerary. By then, I had been away from home for a week, and during those days I had visited so many beautiful places. This time, it was time to move provinces once again, arriving at one I had been wanting to visit for a long time: the province of Formosa ❤️.

Si escribir sobre un paso más en mi tan ansiado #travelgoal es emocionante, no podría describir exactamente lo que sentía mientras lo estaba concretando. El viaje que había planeado para terminar de conocer las provincias de Argentina estaba marchando a la perfección, y ya casi iba llegando a la mitad de mi itinerario. Para entonces, ya había salido de mi casa hacía una semana, y en esos días había visitado un montón de lugares hermosos. Esta vez, tocaba moverme de provincia una vez más, llegando a una que tenía ganas de visitar hacía mucho tiempo: la provincia de Formosa ❤️.

--- --- After spending two nights in the capital of Chaco, Resistencia, it was time to take a bus to travel to the city of Formosa, in the province of the same name. This journey was less than 200 km, so I chose an afternoon bus in order to make the most of my last morning in Chaco and travel during the day. The trip took about three hours, during which I was, of course, sleeping.

Después de haber estado dos noches en la capital de Chaco, Resistencia, tocó tomarme un bus para moverme hasta la ciudad de Formosa, en la provincia homónima. Este recorrido era de menos de 200 km, por lo que elegí un bus por la tarde, para aprovechar mi última mañana en Chaco y viajar de día. Este trayecto habrá tomado unas tres horas, en las que por supuesto fui durmiendo.

--- During the time I planned the route for this trip, I had my doubts about where to go after Chaco. The city of Resistencia is actually very close to the city of Corrientes, in a province I also still needed to visit. I could have even taken a city bus to get there, but after thinking it over quite a bit, I decided to keep heading north before turning west. Besides, I had talked with a friend who was in Asunción, Paraguay, and I wanted to visit her, so continuing north made the most sense.

Durante el tiempo que planeé la ruta de este viaje, tuve mis dudas sobre a donde ir después de Chaco. La ciudad de Resistencia realmente estaba muy cerca de la ciudad de Corrientes, en una provincia que también me faltaba visitar. Hasta podría haberme tomado un bus urbano para llegar a ella, pero después de pensarlo bastante, me decidí por seguir subiendo al norte antes de desviarme al oeste. Además, había charlado con una amiga que se encontraba en Asunción, Paraguay, y quería visitarla, por lo que seguir subiendo me quedaba cómodo.

--- One of the advantages of traveling with little luggage was that I could move around comfortably between the different places I needed to go. As always, I had already planned my accommodation in Formosa, and I also managed to get a good hotel that, for 25,000 ARS (around $20), offered me a private room and breakfast. Something I might not have taken into account was that the Formosa bus terminal was quite far from the city center, so when I got off, I had to figure out which public transportation would take me there. Luckily, the same bus card from Buenos Aires worked in this province as well, so I got there without any issues.

Lo bueno de haber llevado poco equipaje, es que podía moverme cómodamente por los distintos lugares a los que tenía que ir. Como siempre, yo ya había planeado mi alojamiento en Formosa, y también había conseguido un buen hotel que por 25000 ARS ($20 aprox), me ofrecía una habitación privada y desayuno. Algo que quizás no había tenido en cuenta era que la terminal de Formosa quedaba bastante lejos del centro, por lo que al bajar tuve que investigar qué transporte público me acercaba hasta allá. Por suerte, la misma tarjeta de colectivo de Buenos Aires me servía para esta provincia, así que llegué sin problemas.

--- Between one thing and another, it was already getting close to sunset, so I settled into the hotel and went out for a walk before night fell. The hotel I had chosen was only four blocks from the main avenue, which made it very easy to get there on foot. What surprised me about this city was how beautiful and clean it was, full of well-kept historic buildings while still preserving its modern side. The setting sun also gave the walk a magical touch.

Entre vuelta y vuelta, ya estaba atardeciendo, así que me acomodé en el hotel y salí a dar una vuelta antes de que cayera la noche. El hotel que había elegido quedaba solo a cuatro cuadras de la avenida principal, por lo que se me hizo muy fácil llegar a pie. De esta ciudad me sorprendió lo linda y limpia que era, llena de edificios históricos y bien cuidados, pero sin perder su parte moderna. La luz del sol cayendo también le daba un toque mágico al paseo.

--- Unlike other major cities in Argentina, the city of Formosa didn’t have the typical layout of a central square with a church, school, city hall, and police station around it. Here, the main cathedral was located on an avenue, almost reaching the riverfront, while the main square was about ten blocks further back. This meant I had to walk a bit more to see everything, but it was worth it because it’s a city that’s truly enjoyable to explore.

A diferencia de otras ciudades importantes de Argentina, en la ciudad de Formosa no había la típica distribución de plaza central e iglesia, escuela, municipalidad y policía en los alrededores. En este lugar, la catedral principal estaba en una avenida, casi llegando a la costanera, y la plaza principal estaba como 10 cuadras más atrás. Esto me obligó a caminar un poco más para ver todo, pero valió la pena porque es una ciudad que da gusto recorrer.

--- As the final step of my first visit to the city of Formosa, I chose to go to a museum to learn a bit more about the local history. This city is located on the border with the neighboring country of Paraguay, so it has a strong military history, and even today the police presence remains quite noticeable. In the museum, you could see various objects related to the city’s development and how it has grown over the years.

Como último paso de mi primera visita a la ciudad de Formosa, elegí ir a un museo para interiorizarme un poco más con la historia del lugar. Esta ciudad es una ciudad fronteriza con el país vecino Paraguay, por lo que tiene mucha historia militar, y hasta en la actualidad, la presencia policial sigue siendo bastante fuerte. En el museo se podía ver varios objetos que hacen a la construcción de esta ciudad, y como fue creciendo a lo largo de los años.

--- In addition to wanting to complete my #travelgoal of visiting all the provinces of Argentina, I wanted to visit the province of Formosa because my grandmother, my dad, and all my aunts and uncles on that side of the family were born there. They moved to Buenos Aires when my dad was five years old, but over the years I had heard many wonderful stories from my grandmother about life in Formosa. Of course, when I arrived in the province, I video-called her and showed her several spots around the city that she hadn’t visited in a long time. It was a very special moment.

Además de querer completar mi lista de #travelgoal visitando todas las provincias de Argentina, yo quería visitar la provincia de Formosa porque en ella nacieron mi abuela, mi papá y todos mis tíos de ese lado de la familia. Ellos se mudaron a Buenos Aires cuando mi papá tenía 5 años, pero en todos estos años escuché muy buenas anécdotas de mi abuela sobre la vida en Formosa. Por supuesto que cuando llegué a esta provincia la llamé por videollamada y le mostré varios puntos de la ciudad que ella no visitaba hace tiempo. Fue un momento muy lindo.

--- Visiting 22 out of 23 provinces in Argentina sounds like a lot, but it was becoming possible thanks to planning and determination to achieve my goal. Each city I visited seemed more beautiful than the last, and I’ll always be grateful for having had the opportunity to explore so many amazing places. My planned stay in Formosa was three nights, which gave me enough time to explore quite a bit while also keeping up with my work responsibilities on Hive. Sometimes I couldn’t believe how well I managed to combine travel and work, but that’s how it went—and I truly enjoyed every moment of it ❤️.

Conocer 22 de 23 provincias de Argentina suena como mucho, pero estaba siendo posible gracias a la planificación y determinación en cumplir mi objetivo. Cada ciudad que veía me parecía más linda que la otra, y siempre voy a agradecer el haber tenido la oportunidad de visitar tantos lugares geniales. MI estancia programada en Formosa era de tres noches, por lo que tendría tiempo suficiente para explorar bastante, al mismo tiempo que cumplía con mis responsabilidades de trabajo de Hive. A veces no podía creer que pude combinar tan bien el viaje y el trabajo, pero así fue y la pasé muy bien en todo ese tiempo ❤️.
