I do think it might be both. He started as a Democrat, while also endeared himself to democrats to get their support for his businesses. As his companies became successful and his net worth grew, he started being concerned about them and how the democrats keep wanting to increase the taxes of the rich. He slowly became Republican because their 'platforms' are better for him currently. And as he consumed more republican media, he slowly became like them with their misogyny and oppressive behaviors.
