I step outside into the lawn, walk down the driveway and grab the mail. On my way back through the path to my front door, everything goes dark. No light except the lights in the house. I look up into the sky, the sun is completely gone. In its stead is a black splotch in the sky with starlight warped around it. A black hole has replaced the sun.
Drivers on the road begin crashing into one another, car lights coming on shortly after. Everyone honking their horns trying to get back home to safety. I rush inside the house panicked, knowing the world is ending.
I sit on the loveseat with the front door wide open, looking out into the pitch blackness only chopped through by car lights, people speeding like bats out of hell and having accidents running into one another as they all try to swerve and go around each other in a frenzy.
It doesn't take long for the fog to set outside. Fog so thick you can't see a foot in front of yourself. I turn on the outside lights trying to make heads or tails of what's going on. I've gotten my bearings at this point and felt brave enough to step outside once again. I look up once again, making sure I've seen what I saw, and sure enough, the black hole is still there.
Every hour I can feel myself becoming lighter with passing time, each footstep becoming easier like I'm increasingly in ever lower gravity than the moment before. It occurs to me that the black hole in the sky that has replaced our warm, life giving sun was about to consume us all.
"Is this really how the world ends? Why is the world ending so soon? How could this have happened? This makes no sense, I don't understand what's going on." I'm crying to myself. "I'm not ready to die" I whimper out.
The voices are telling me to go back inside, others telling me to stare at the black hole, other still warning me about the fog. "Don't go any further into the fog. The fog is dangerous. Shit, they know where you are. Get inside. Stupid, fucking stupid, why did you come outside! You're an idiot, get back inside stupid stupid stupid!"
I go back inside, watching the fog through the glass door. I hug myself, still crying, watching outside in the dark, dense fog with tear filled eyes. "I'm not ready to go, I don't want to die". The street lights turn on. Some officials must already be on this, maybe someone is coming to save us. That has to be what's going on, but nobody came, just the usual panic out in the streets with some people going on a murder spree, others raping anyone and everyone they can overpower, as far as I could tell from the shadows in the lights in the fog.
At this point I shut and lock my front door. I'm panicking all over again, heart racing what feels like a million beats per second.
I sit on my needs on the couch in front of the front window and carefully peak out. I'm panicking, crying and hyperventilating, I can't calm down nor catch my breath.
Hours pass, I'm watching the mayhem unfold. The fog is clearing. There's something gigantic in the fog. Wait, not something. Somethings. They're titanic in size, slender with long beaks, sharp teeth, black beedy ears, extremely long limbs.
I watch in horror as these titans pick people up and munch on them like crackers, going as far to tear the roofs off cars and pick humans up from the safety of their cars, eating each and every person unfortunate enough to be within it's gaze.
Are these things part of the nature of black holes? Where did they come from? How could something like this exist and for us to never notice, to never find out such a thing was real?
"Oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck" I close the windows curtains from the small opening I made to view outside. "I think it saw me, I know it saw me. It's coming for me now."
I leave the living room, scrambling and tripping my way into the bedroom where my hubby has been sitting the whole time. I'm panicked and crying my eyes out. He's used to me having schizophrenic breakdowns, but had no idea I've been experiencing one for the last 8 hours, he thought I was chatting with the neighbors and hanging out with them and assumed no important mail came in.
He hugged me tight to himself, petting the back of my head and my back, giving me kisses. He keeps telling me "It's a hallucination. It's not real. I won't harm you." I scream trying my best to drag him with me outside of the bedroom. One of those titanous claws reaches in smashing the bedroom window and searching for us.
My husband is firm and holds me in place, shushing me and giving me tighter hugs and nuzzling the side of my face giving me a kiss every so often, "Whatever you're seeing, it's not real".
I scream at him "The sun us fucking gone and that thing is going to eat us like it did everyone else!"
He continues to reassure me he sees light coming through the window, assuring me the glass isn't broken and there's no hand reaching in for us.
The hand grabs the both of us, I feel it squeezing me. I'm coughing for air, struggling to breath. My husband says with ease "It's not real." I black out, I don't remember anything from that point. I just find myself laying in bed with both our blankets on top of me with my husband gently petting the back of my head and side of my face.
I'm confused, I see the sunlight now, the window is no longer broken. My two roommates had apparently helped hoist my heavy body onto the bed and help tuck me in, I had apparently passed out presumably from terror. My husband gets a couple of my pills from the pill bottles, a clonazepam and a buspirone and a diet soda to drink. I take them without hesitation.
It's getting dark outside again, I frantically tell my hubby. He shushes me "It's almost evening, of course, night time." I'm still terrified, but the medicine eventually does its job, calms me down and I just lay in bed snuggling up to my partner. The voices still in full force as they usually are, but at least I'm safe now.
The story you read is a recollection of an extended length hallucation I've had involving being a paranoid schizophrenic. I cannot control these hallucinations and to me, when they happen, they are very real and very convincing. This is just one story involving a schizophrenic episode. This story is something I've seen with my own senses, an actual hallucination that lasted for a good portion of the day.
