Today was one of those days...
Okay, it was actually way more than one of those days. My husband and I got up at 3am to go watch NASA’s Mars InSight launch. The plan was to blog about that. After all, I claim to be a science nerd...but rarely post about science.
We aren’t morning people. At least not 3am people. But it was surprisingly easy to get up. And refreshingly energizing. I grabbed a camera. But the wrong one. I should have planned better. All I have to show for the outing are a few photos of a tiny dot of red light.
We watched it from the viewing deck of the Santa Monica airport and we weren’t alone. There were two other couples. The older one left immediately after the launch as the man grumbled about how disappointing it was. Yes...you just watched a rocket ship launch into space on its way to Mars. What a letdown that it didn’t look like an iMax movie. The other couple hung around and we chatted a bit with these techies who work in Silicone Beach. And then we headed home because it was still too early to get Starbucks and bagels, my master plan.
When we entered our home, we were greeted by some disgruntled, out-of-sorts felines. On a normal day, they revel in rousing us from slumber to fill their dishes with meat around 6am. But here it was, not even 5 yet, and not only had we disrupted the kitten pile we call a bed, we’d left the freakin’ building!
The rest of the day was out of step, syncopated, swinging from the hands of a clock ticking between the downbeats of time. We napped. They did, too. We all got lost in the folds of the day and still haven’t quite regained our rhythm again.
But some things remain constant, regardless of what it says on the day planner:
What did you do today?
