Greetings

I don't have much to invest in trading, so I would like to use alot of leverage to trade a system I found(on youtube), perfected and backtested on several currency pares and commodities. I now believe I can make some serious money with this, I'm just not comfortable with the risk. It takes alot of work (monitoring) and with the risk...you know how it goes, lots of hours on the computer, emotions..bad decisions.

My doubt is related to the risk one accepts when using high leverage on this social trading platforms, like Etoro for instance.
You are obligated to trade with stop loss, so you don't lose more than whatever you deposit (and so they can take your money from you faster) . However there is the risk of a market gap. When this happens it just goes right past your stop, I'm almost certain your trade is not closed at the price you have choosen for your stop and you are now in debt for more than you can pay them. Can anyone else confirm me this??

I believe this happens especially after weekends when the market is closed and on monday it opens at a very different price. The market is closed so you can't close your position and when it opens its too late.

*Say for instance you are willing to trade with $100 from your acccount and you use x100 leverage:
100x100= 10.000
With your leveraged $100 you can now trade(long) 9175 units (more less) at $1.0899 each.
Let's say the market opens at 1,0703, your 9175 units are now worth $9820.
$10000-$9820 = $180
Your $100 are gone and you are in debt for $80 more. If you had $10000x100 you would now be -$17984 ( this gap actually happened in the EurUsd par back in April). *

This is what im affraid, do the stops work in this situations or not really??
For me high leverage seems to be the only way to make money of trading in this platforms. And the risk increases if you want to leave positions open over night, which in my strategy is common.

I hope this post is of value to someone interested in trading that is new to this activity.
I also hope someone can answear me, and maybe shed some light, on how to hedge such situations effectively.

Sorry for some of the poor English :)
