i skipped my period last month.
i’ve never skipped a period in my life. i’ve always prided myself on being the girl who eats a healthy amount and takes care of her body. i didn’t understand what was happening. i decided to wait it out and keep up with my routine:
this year hasn’t been that easy for me.
i’ve been experiencing frustration and fear frequently as i navigate adult life.
i thought that by increasing my time in the gym and doing more hot yoga, i’d reduce my stress levels. working out has always been a massive component to keeping me mentally sane, & that’s why i love it so much
but, too much of one thing is never a good thing…
even though i was eating enough food to compensate for the exercise, my body was TIRED. it was asking for a break, but i put it into a breakdown. instead of lowering my cortisol levels, i increased them by pushing my body to the edge - far beyond what it could handle. i was feeling rundown almost every day but kept. pushing. our culture generates so much anxiety, stress, and jealousy
we rarely tend to focus on the awareness of our inner values. without awareness, we can’t understand our inner emotion - this makes it so much harder to tackle destructive emotional behavior before it begins.
so that’s what i’m working on.
after 3 weeks of no period, i took a break. slept more. worried less. i realized: maybe right now, my mental health is just as dependent on the hours of sleep i get at night, and not as much on running sprint intervals. and just like that, the red river came a flooowin’! i’ve been taking care of becoming more calm & peaceful, listening to my body in the present moment.
yesterday, i had planned sprints & a lift. my body was tired as HELL come lunchtime. motivation was down to nothing. instead of supplementing it with a hot yoga class or stressing about how it would negatively impact my mood, i went home.
when i got there, my body was like, “yo.. it’s cool if you do some light yoga for 20 minutes”. so that’s what i did. and then i sat. for the rest of the night. and did absolutely nothing
