The weekend arrives and I decided to go have a picnic in one of the wildest places in Portugal, we refer to the famous "Tapada de Mafra" which is a place with a great history since the kings of Portugal hunted here for sport! It is an extensive natural reserve with many free wild animals, here we can find from deer to very aggressive wild boars! my sister was so excited to see some deer which is not common anywhere in the country! How interesting is the "tapada de mafra?🌲🐗🦌🌷🚩
It is a very easy question to answer! In fact, if it is worth visiting the "tapada de mafra" for many reasons, firstly it is a place with more than 1000 hectares that are destined for the preservation and protection of some species of animals, it also has a section for "the hunting season" this to control the population of deer that have no predators in the park! Imagine taking a walk in a magical place that was considered in the "2019 UNESCO heritage". It is not only a recreational area but also a tourist one!🧗♀️🧗♂️🚵♂️🚵♀️🚴♂️
Among the things you can do to enjoy this beautiful nature reserve are: (hiking, picnicking, biking, learning about nature, learning projects, rappelling, among others). There are many activities that you can do alone or with your family, so the park is suitable for walking with small children, obviously you cannot do an 8km trail, which was our goal this weekend, and make a stop in the middle of the mountain range to eat some yummy atum salads!🚵♂️🌷👩👧👨

This park was built in the 17th century, this tells us how old it is, although the medieval era ended in the 15th century, I use the term because many kings of Portugal used to do what I do at the moment... Spending a weekend with royalty to enjoy nature and men to dedicate themselves to sport hunting, quiet... When the king hunted some wild animal, a banquet was held in a cabin intended for food, then the head of the animal was exhibited in the "Palace de Mafra" although I am against this activity, it is part of our national culture and history! who would say? I am stepping on the ground where the most important characters in the country walked!🍇🥔🍴👸🤴🍲

Our adventure begins when we choose what type of trail we want to do, in this nature reserve you can choose 3 types of paths, some are more intense than others, the first is the "yellow" which consists of a 2km route suitable for children and third age" then we have the blue and red path that are the most intense with a route of 8km bordering a part of the mountain range of "Mafra", we chose to walk the "red" because it is the wildest, they recommended this one since we would see wild animals! As you walk through the park you learn, there are signs everywhere that indicate what type of tree we are seeing, what animals we can observe, therefore it is impossible to get bored or not learn something! and you can even play detective by following tracks to figure out what kind of animal passed by!😲😮😊✅🕵️♂️👨🏫
Who knows me knows how much I love this type of activities, it seems unbelievable but it is the first time that my sister has the experience of seeing some deer or wild boar, and it was a very nice feeling because these are the memories that we tell our grandchildren when we are seniors! I have done so many adventures in my life that to say that I have not enjoyed life would be a "lie" and without a doubt the best moments are with my family! we had already walked 2km and we still didn't see anything xD it seems that the animals don't want to go out in "hive" hahaha😃😅😍🦨🦡🐁🐇🐍🐦🦂

When we reached the 3 km of trail then we saw our first specimen of "Cervus dama" judging by its horns it must be a young male, in this season it is normal to see them together and with many pups walking around! They are very curious animals, at this point Julieth was already happy because she saw her first deer for the first time without going to a zoo!🤩😲🦌🌄
Suddenly to our surprise about 2km away there is a herd of more than 10 individuals resting in the grass and others feeding, clearly by the horn there was an adult male of "Cervus dama" there, we can also find the species "Cervus elaphus" in the park but today we had no luck!😲🦌🌄🤩📷

We were all hungry, we had arrived at the park at 11:00 and it was 14:00 at this point we had walked about... 5 kilometers we were very close to completing our path! My wife prepared some delicious atum salads with honey mustard. I drank a Coke to replenish our energy xD, in reality we don't feel that the road is very "demanding", perhaps it is because we were very distracted by the landscape and the animals!😊📷🤩🥗🍴

I think this Saturday was one of my favorites so far this year! it was very exciting because while we were walking julieth saw two baby boars even though i couldn't photograph them it is something very difficult to see in nature, because you can't get very close to them since the mother is very aggressive when she has young! until now we had seen many species of reptiles, deer, wild boar😍😃👨🏫🐗🐗
How lucky that I brought my telephoto lens so I could take better photos of the animals that were very far away, we were already only 1km away from finishing our adventure, and as you could see in the photos we had already photographed a wild boar, it was a female because it did not have those fangs and I think she had some babies too!😄😏
