The general belief is that the grass is always greener on the other side but how true is this? Or I should ask where is the other side and what kind of manure is applied to the grass on the other side that makes it greener?
I always thought the African continent people are only the set of people who think migration to Europe, America or other continent is the only way forward but recently I have seen people migrating from all the countries in these continents moving from one country or continent to another searching for a greener pasture. This gave me another thought about how true it is if truly the grass is greener on the other side.
In recent times, people migrated to another country thinking it is the best decision for them but end up in a place much worse for them just like people who leave there home country for Europe and end up in Libya and become victims of slave trade. Then I asked my self “ is the grass always greener on the other side?”
A young man moved to America, became successful, got married have a beautiful family but misses home and planning to relocate back to his home country to establish some business in his country most especially his state.
Meanwhile a successful man in Nigeria living above average have one dream for which they saved religiously. Martins and his wife who both run successful businesses here in Nigeria have not missed their "prayer point" in the last 6years. "Lord this dream must come through, we must relocate to America. Lord I decree"

James Adeboye watches through the window of his high rise office everyday. Admiring independent businessmen, hating his job because he thought it is a cage and doesn’t give him room to grow and wishing to be a self employed entrepreneur someday.
Meanwhile... Mike Edikan walks pass that same Office building everyday with his CV in his hand and sweat on his forehead, asking God "when"?. When would I say "I work for big firm like this or get a job to earn a living.
Mrs Olajumoke Lloyd, wife of a multi billionaire wishes she could turn back time and and marry her boyfriend during university days. Can't believe how hellish it is and wishes for singleness.
Meanwhile Funke who works for her would give anything to be Mr Bello's wife (3rd wife for that matter) because all she see is the glamour not any iota of pain from her boss.
The stupidity that is deep in envy and comparison of lives is the kind that needs extreme miracle and grace to expel. Given the shoes of the man with the life you want may be all that you need to cure you of your unnecessary longing. The saying "the grass is always greener on the other side" means you see only the glamour and not the pain, you see a greener grass but forgotten how the grass was planted, watered, trimmed and cared for during a time of rain and scorching sun
I am asking now; is the grass always greener on the other side?
Recently I was watching a documentary about migration and I was filled with tears after listening to the stories of migrant crossing from United state to Canada. These people are from Africa and they believe migrating to USA will be a good turn around for them and they will be in plenty but the story wasn’t the same after few months. With expired visa, inability to do renewal, not wanting to go back to there home country, they feel unsecured and seeking another greener pasture. Some complained about government policy not favorable, some complained about not getting jobs, some complained of not having the opportunity to explore so as to be successful but didn’t they consider all these before moving to this presumed greener land.
I listened to the story of this woman with 4 children crossing from New York to Canada. After the PCID explained to her that if she is let into Canada she will be considered for asylum and if not approved she can’t go back to USA which means deportation is the next thing, she gladly took the offer without hesitation thinking the grass is greener on the other side.
Back to my question again; is it always greener at the other side?
We all have opportunity to be great wherever we find ourselves, I am not disputing the fact that it is easier in some places than other and some people have the opportunity to maximize there potential in another country but if you are migrating with no proper plan and good feasibility studies done, then the other side might be a desert and a regret.
Before you decide to move to the other side, make sure you have the capability to expand, opportunity to be the best in what you know how to do and in all remember you can be successful where you are now.
