Ausra and I went hiking in the woods with our trekking poles. I didn't force her to use them but when she saw me take out my pair out of the cabin, she asked for her pair too.

"How am I worse than you?"

When we walked for a while, I discovered she's been moving funny. She's been doing it wrong - same hand, same foot while she needed to do the opposite hand and foot.

She struggled with it for a while and looked like a giant beetle with too many legs. She said, "whenever I'm focusing on it, I'm doing it wrong." So we went really slowly. I was ahead of her and felt like an expert because I watched a 5 minute YouTube video about trekking poles.

In the middle of our trail we saw a man lightly jogging with trekking poles. It's true that they make you go faster than usual but I didn't think anyone could jog with them.

At night, when I finished reading a passage from David Sedaris' diary, I turned off the lights and went to sleep. Not long afterwards I heard some funny noises on the roof. The same kind that I heard during the day too. Then I thought the neighbors were working on the plumbing but now...

In the dark I came to the window and saw a curious creature going about his business on the roof. It was obviously a marten. Then it jumped to the nearest tree and it started shaking. Maybe a family of martens has been living in that tree?

We had martens' visits before. One time in the winter I found a loaf of dried bread under the hood of Ausra' car as well as some cut cable because of which her car wouldn't start. Apparently martens were having a happy time under her car.

Maybe I should go talk to them if they come back...
