Papery hydrangeas
Today I have tried to catch the fading colours of hydrangea petals in watercolour. These delicate petals have dried, and the dusty blues and soft lavender colours are mixing with the linen creams on the surface of their papery petals.
I applied a background wash to the paper and allowed this to dry before drawing the outline of the flowers using watercolor pencils. The next stage was to use masking fluid where I wanted to create subtle highlights on the petals.
I blended the watercolour pencils using a damp brush before adding gentle tints of watercolour over the top.
