The money will allow the Bayou Lafourche Fresh Water District to build a new pumping station along the Mississippi River in Donaldsonville, tripling the current capacity to send river water down the bayou.

Bayou Lafourche was once a major artery of the Mississippi River until it was leveed up, which turned out to be a big mistake for the environment. The wetlands down bayou has slowly starved ever since. This is a big deal not just for bringing more fresh water for drinking but for bringing more sediment rich water to the marshes down bayou. I hope this leads to even more fresh water diversions from the River. It's the only way to help the swamps to survive longterm.
