As runners getting injured is almost always I concern. I wish someone told me sooner how important cross training is for injury prevention. Actually I wish they told me what TYPE of cross training is best for injury prevention. That is what I wanted to talk about in the video.
I can't think of any other sport which can mimic the performance benefits you get from running, as much as cycling. The advantage of cycling though is that it is very low impact on your legs.
For marathon and ultra runners it is especially great. If you are going to race for anywhere above 5 hours it is rare (although not impossible) that you will mimic that in training.
Whereas you can easily do a 5+ hour ride and still feel okay the next day. That way you spent the time in the sun working hard yet your legs are still in tact, if you know what I mean.
